WHERE OLD MEETS NEW.

Located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, only a half block away from the popular Sprint Center venue, the historic Interstate Building at 417 East 13th Street is now a 73-room Holiday Inn Express featuring a fitness center, a breakfast nook where a full breakfast is served to guests, a business center and a small conference room. The hotel is as proud of its beautiful, fully renovated rooms as it is of its historic elements.

According to its entry in the National Register of Historic Places, the seven-story Inter-State building was originally designed by James C. Sunderland in the Chicago style of architecture and was built in 1915. Though mostly vacant when it was purchased for this project, the building housed the federal Interstate Commerce Commission at one time.

In late 2014, on the eve of its one-hundredth birthday, the renovation project began, spearheaded by developer Mark Patel. Kansas City-based Rosin Preservation consulted on the historical aspects of the project, and BRR Architecture of Merriam was contracted for the overall design. The $9.5 million project was completed four years later and the hotel opened in December of 2018.

Warp & Phil is beyond pleased to be involved with the restoration of historic buildings in the company’s hometown of Kansas City. Warp & Phil is just as invested in the beautification of guest rooms and interior spaces as the exterior of the building, which still retains its original facade and gilded entrance, restored as part of the Holiday Inn Express redevelopment. Other historical elements that were preserved were the size of the windows and the central staircase.

Guests that stay at the Power & Light district-adjacent Holiday Inn Express will be greeted by comfortable and stylish Warp & Phil bedding in every room. As always, Warp & Phil is proud to continue to service the brand for years to come.
